Trouble with centering, prayer and meditation due to drugs?
Okay, so, I was recently prescribed Belladonna, and while I’ve only been on it for two and a half days, it’s been making me very sleepy and sort of groggy, which makes it very hard to focus.
Now, I normally fail at meditation but I can usually get there for a few minutes, but on this stuff its rather off in la la land. I’m also having difficulty with just expressing myself in prayer properly and keep losing my train of thought.
Has anyone else had similar problems? And how did you deal with them?
A Gastroentenologist, more accurately Belladonna Alkaloids Phenobarbital, not the actual plant, though the atropine is there in small doses I believe.
Perhaps it’s best to take some time away from meditation and prayer, or adapt your practices.
With meditation, you could use a mindfulness approach, just observing what’s going on in your current state. But only if that’s helpful or resting. Stressing yourself over it is contra-indicated. 
There’s a wee Jewish story that comes to mind. A boy who had never been taught to read came into the back of a shul and wanted to pray. Not knowing the Hebrew, he recited the Alef Beit over and over, saying “HaShem, you know what is in my heart. Here are the letters to form the words.”
