Buddhist commune/retreat in California?
I’d like to spend about a month at a place that concentrates on meditation and martial arts, where instead of paying money everyone works as a unit doing chores. I live in the bay area and if any of you know of a commune like the one described please let me know.

Try Visalia. Depending where you are in the Bay it is about a 4-6 hour drive South Central Valley. Its a Lao Buddist Temple. I have known some people from Thailand that do go there for retreat. My father built a Buddist Temple in Batam Indonesia (very nice temple)… so if you ever wanted to go there…
