Meditation Tones
yoga or pilates??? ive recently lost a bit of weight but am lacking the nice toned look, so a simple question?
which would be better for me to acheive an overall toned look, i dont want to look to muscular but atm i just think i look a bit loose (if you know what i mean without been rude or mean to me).
I do a little yoga but it’s mosly just breathing and meditation after a hard day.
Which would you recommend and (simply) what are the main differences between the two?

Both are actually really good for you, and compliment each other very well if you can do both. Both offer dynamic stretching excercises which keep you supple and train your short twitch muscle fibres (the ones that make you look slim and toned).
Yoga is a traditional Indian art, with all the traditions and techniques that go with that, whilst Pilates is a more modern fusion of different styles. Both are good, but yoga has the potential to build you up to much more difficult techniques once you have trained for a while.
Also if you have access to a gym there are other ways to compliment this training.
Cardio exercise will not only burn calories and reduce your body fat levels, but will also improve your resting heart rate and lung function, making you healthier.
Strength training will help you strengthen and tone your muscles, if you use light to medium weights with lots of reps/sets, you wont build size, but you will tone up your body and train muscle endurance. This will obviously make you ‘look’ healthier and more toned, but will also increase your metabolism (as your muscles demand more energy) so you will burn calories faster and make your muscles stronger, increase your endurance and increase your flexibility. You will essentially get a lean toned look and be strong and healthy.
As far as excercise goes, you should aim to strike a balance between yoga/pilates, cardio training and strength training, this way you will build good strong and toned muscle, but also keep your body fat levels down and increase your heart and lung performance, making you much fitter and healthier.
