Does anyone know how I can learn mindfulness meditation?

I would really like to get into it and I have found videos on youtube stating how beneficial it is, but very few on how to actually practise it. I can’t afford to go on any kind of course, but I’d be open to buying a dvd or something. Any extra advice you can give me on the subject would also be very appreciated.
If it helps to understand my question (though you have all been very helpful so far) I am looking towards mindfulness as I learnt that it may be very effective with regards to my long term depression and eating disorder. This is why I put it under ‘psychology’ rather than ’spirituatity’ or ‘religion’.

What is Mindfulness Meditation? Mindfulness is a type of meditation that essentially involves focusing your mind on the present moment; to be mindful is to be aware of your thoughts and actions in the present moment. Research provided by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD has proven that mindfulness meditation improves mood, decreases anxiety and depression, and boosts immune function. Jon Kabat-Zinn has some excellent books out called: “The Mindful Way Through Depression”, “Coming To Our Senses: Healing Ourselves and Our World Through Mindfulness” and “Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life.”

How to practice ‘basic’ Mindfulness Meditation: Find a quiet and comfortable place. Sit in a chair or on a cusion on the floor with your head, neck and back straight but not stiff. Put aside all thoughts of the past and the future and stay in the present moment. Become aware of your breathing, focusing on the sensation of air moving in and out of your body as you breathe. Feel your belly rise and fall, the air enter your nostrils and leave your mouth. Pay attention to the way each breath changes and is different. Watch every thought come and go, whether it be a worry, fear, anxiety or hope. In mindfulness meditation one is ‘an observer’ of thoughts that arise in the mind during meditation. These thoughts are neither analyzed nor harshly judged but are recognized as they simply are: thoughts and feelings. They are not to be clinged to, for clinging causes suffering. We use the breath as an anchor. What does this mean? When a thought/feeling arises in the mind, we observe it-making a mental note of it, then return to the breath. This practice of mindfulness meditation requires patience and through daily practice – patience is cultivated and wisdom is gained. Remember not to be hard on yourself when your thoughts wander; be gentle with the mind, and simply return to the breath. Practicing for fifteen minutes a day – for starters – is sufficient.
