Hindus and Buddhists ~ Should Meditation Be Undertaken Reciting Mantras?
Should meditation be undertaken while reciting mantras in your head, or should meditation be undertaken without reciting mantras? I ask this because the purpose of meditation is to make the mind still, whereas reciting mantras whilst meditating will always cause mental activity…..Thanks
When you first try and walk a tightrope you use a long stick to help you balance. When you learn to do this you disregard the stick and use your arms. Finally you learn to balance despite what your arms are doing.
In the same way using a Mantra (verbal aid), Yantra (visual aid), Mudras or Asanas (physical aids), will help you in the begining. Then you must learn to disregard them and meditate without such aids. Finally your meditation will over take you and you will meditate in all that you do.
