Samatha Meditation
méditation how many time to control shamatha (respiration) ?
I have started meditation since 2 month ago , i have already the good effect with reduction of my pain linked to the stress .
But i know that i control almost nothing in samatha , i have few minutes of concentration , for a long moment of distraction .
So i think that there a lot of time before controlling it
(scuse me if my english is not perfect i’m french )
Is normal to become distracted, the habit of the mind is to move to the past and to the future without staying in the present.
When you get those small moments of attention, you are in the present and it helps you a lot to control your mind.
So when distractions come, just use them as tools to keep observing your mind, so when you notice you get distracted, just return to the breath and keep practicing. This act of observing the mind becoming distracted time after time helps you to improve your practice.
Another think I can recommend is to stop bad habits like drinking alcohol or smoking, lying, stealing…. living a balanced life also helps you a lot for concentration.
