Can someone tell me the real purpose and spiritual beings of Tomiki/Shodokan Aikido or Aikido in generall?
Been doing Shodokan Aikido for several weeks now, every Tuesday. I really enjoy it, and have brilliant fun. Learning different techniques and etc. However, I really want to find out this martial art to the deeper side of it. The purpose and spiritual side. Anyone know the real purpose and spiritual/energy side of Aikido?
If you want to focus more on spiritual development then perhaps you might have enrolled in the wrong school, you probably should’ve taken up Ki Aikido if you wanted to focus more on the spiritual side of training, since they put more emphasis on Ki development. The Tomiki style is more of a hard style and focuses more on practical application of techniques. But still, the tenets taught by the founder of Aikido regarding harmony and love is taught in most Aikido schools so it’s up to your instructor whether he wants to incorporate it into your training, you can try asking him about it. Besides, it’s way too early for you to complain about lack of spiritual development at this point of your training since you just started weeks ago, try sticking around for a couple more years and you’ll probably be able to discover the purpose and spiritual side on your own. Don’t try to take on too much at once, this is not a fastfood joint, it’s a place of learning and learning takes time, hard work and dedication.
