Deciding Goals For Yoga
Yoga is a very popular style of exercise today. Most people use it to improve their body, but a lot of people also use it to improve their mind. It’s important that you know what you want to get out of Yoga before you begin. Since Yoga is very complex and it offers a different set of techniques and exercises for each area of practice, you need to find the one that is most suited to you. Being clear about this before you start could save you a lot of time and will give you the most benefit. Don’t just go jumping in without being clear on this step.
Before beginning with Yoga, make sure you are physically ready to begin. See your doctor if you are unsure and especially if you have any health conditions. Having a history of back pain, heart problems, arthritis or anything else, you can still get much benefit with Yoga. If you have a severe health problem, find an expert Yoga instructor to help you form a routine that will be safe and give you the most benefit from.
The main thing to do before you start with Yoga is decide what your goals are. Before you go out and signup for a class or buy a bunch of Yoga gear, you need to decide what you want to get out of Yoga. Are you interested in trying Yoga because you have friends that are doing it and it’s the trendy thing to do? Are you stressed out to the max and looking for ways to reduce your stress? Are you overweight and looking for a way to lose weight? Do you wish to be more flexible and maintain your physical health? Are you interested in meditation? Are you interested in becoming more spiritual with Yoga? Do you have specific health issues that you are hoping Yoga can help you with?
Some of these questions can be matched with obvious answers. If you are interested in being more spiritual with Yoga, you need to choose a branch of Yoga that deals with achieving these goals. Branches such as Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga and Tantra Yoga all promote some form of spirituality.
If you are most interested in losing weight, or focusing on physical fitness, then you need to choose a branch that focuses on those goals, such as Hatha Yoga. It helps to write down your different goals and really focus on your specific needs. To meet your specific goals, you need to focus on the needs. If you work around the clock at your job and are super stressed out, you need to work on stress relief. You may only have 1 or 2 hours a week to spend on Yoga, so you will need to keep your program nice and simple to make the most use out of the time you have.
Many people will give excuses about not having the time. 24 hours fly’s by really fast if you are as busy as most people are these days, but there is no excuse to not set aside time for yourself. When your goals are as important as becoming healthier, reducing the risk of disease or health problems down the road, you need to schedule time for Yoga. Everyone has idle moments during the day and these could be used for Yoga. You will be happy you did and your life with be much healthier.
